Eugene Charles O�Leary, age 85, of Pooler, Georgia passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at The McGraw Center for Caring in Jacksonville, Florida.

Born on May 27, 1931 in Payette, Idaho he was the youngest of four sons, born to the late Michael Joseph and Bertha Wing O�Leary. After high school, Mr. O�Leary joined the US Navy. During his four years in the Navy he was stationed in Honolulu for a period of time before going to Charleston, SC. While in Charleston he met his future wife, Ann Yvonne Clark, whom he would marry on June 19, 1954. The newlyweds lived for a short time in Savannah before moving to Coeur d�Alene, ID where Mr. O�Leary attended college. After college the O�Leary�s returned to Savannah where he worked with the Port of Savannah before joining Rheem Manufacturing in the late 1960s. He remained with Rheem until retiring as Supervisor in Plant Operations.

Mr. O�Leary and his wife had been longtime members of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church before joining Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church of Savannah.

He was a man of kind and gentle spirit who was devoted to his family and enjoyed annual holiday family gatherings at his home. He was considered by many of his nieces and nephews as a father figure, as his home became their home and safe haven at various times in their lives.

He enjoyed fishing at Priest Lake, Idaho, boxing, car shows, was an accomplished handyman and loved spending time at their family cabin in the mountains of Idaho along the Salmon River.

Mr. O�Leary�s wife passed away on June 29, 2011. He is also preceded in death by a brother Michael O�Leary.

He leaves behind his daughters, Debbie Tomassini and her husband, Michael, Douglasville, GA, Frances Macdonald and her husband, Brad, Fernandina Beach, FL, brothers Daniel O�Leary, Spokane, WA, Ernest O�Leary, Fruitland, ID, five grandchildren, Jennifer Chang (Eric), Christina Tomassini, Jason Tomassini (Taylor), Caroline Macdonald, Colin Macdonald, two great grandsons, and several nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1003 East Victory Drive, Savannah, GA 31405 with the Reverend Father Brett A. Brannen, Celebrant.
