Florence Mierzejewski

Florence Elfletta Partin Mierzejewski, 88, of Fernandina Beach passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by LOVE on September 21, 2016. This date was also the 90th birthday of her beloved husband � Walter Thomas Mierzejewski, who preceded her in death on August 6, 2014. They enjoyed marriage for 62 years.

A native of Fernandina Beach, she was born on March 28, 1928 and was the daughter of David A. (Happy) Partin and Mary Content Hardee Partin, who owned Partin Shoes & Menswear on Centre Street. Mrs Mierzejewski grew up at the family home on North 4th Street.

Mrs. Mierzejewski graduated from Florida State University in 1951 with a B.S. degree in Education. After completing her studies, returning to Fernandina she met her husband Walter Thomas Mierzejewski and they married on June 22nd 1952. Mrs. Mierzejewski, fondly called �Ms. Florence� by her students, retired after 30 years of teaching. Most of these years were as a kindergarten teacher at Southside Elementary.

Mrs. Mierzejewski was an active member of the United Memorial Methodist Church, Alpha Delta Phi Sorority, Magnolia Garden Club, Women�s Club and several bridge clubs. Mrs. Mierzejewski served as a docent at the Amelia Island Museum of History. She enjoyed monthly outings with the Red Hats. She was an active member of the community, and loved her family dearly.

After her retirement Florence enjoyed traveling with her husband, both locally and overseas. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining. She was a very gracious hostess and opened her home to the entire Partin family for gatherings in May for Shrimp Festival and August for the August birthdays. There are many fond memories during these special family times. Florence and Walter also enjoyed their quiet getaways to Sanibel Island and Crescent Beach.

Survivers include daughter, Julie M. Yousif; of Jacksonville Florida, granddaughter Ameera Yousif. Daughter-in-law Debbie D. Mierzejewski; of Jacksonville Florida, granddaughter Kristyn Mierzejewski; great grandchildren, Rylie Smith and Ryder Mierzejewski. Two sisters, Eloise Rogers and Mary Thweatt. Many treasured nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Helyn Mierzejewski, beloved spouse Walter Thomas Mierzejewski, daughter Lucy Kaufman, son Walter T. Mierzejewski Jr. and grandson Kelly T. Mierzejewski. Brother, Eldridge Partin, Sisters, Helen Springle, Annie Burns, half sister Dallas Farr.

Memorial Services will be held Thursday September 29th at Maxwell Hall of Memorial United Methodist Church in Fernandina Beach Florida at 11 am. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the building fund of Memorial United Methodist Church.
