Gail Lorene Crim

Mrs. Gail Lorene Crim, age 81, of Fernandina Beach, passed away on Wednesday evening, November 13, 2024. Gail was born on September 1, 1943, in Mobile, AL, to Ralph N. Wood, Sr. and Mary Evelyn (Ely) Wood. She was a graduate of Fernandina Beach High School, Class of 1961. After high school, she moved to Washington D.C. to start an administrative career with the FBI. Upon returning home to Fernandina, she joined the staff of Judge Robert Williams. Her prestigious career saw her retire as a Victim Advocate with the Florida State Attorney’s office in Nassau County after 33 years of dedicated service.
Gail was a loving mother and grandmother, cherished by her family and friends for her love of life, kind heart and quick wit. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Fernandina Beach, where she served many roles including organist, office volunteer, and Altar Guild. She was also a long-time member of the GFWC Woman’s Club in Fernandina. Gail was an accomplished pianist, hard to beat at Scrabble, loved gardening, walking on the beach looking for shark’s teeth, playing bridge with friends, spending time with her great-grandsons, and rooting for the Georgia Bulldogs.
Gail was predeceased by her husband, Joe Crim, daughter, Lori Lentjes-Crim, and sister Beverly Norton. She is survived by her son, Curtis Lentjes (Linda), Fernandina Beach, FL; Connie Ross (Chuck), Mandarin, FL; Cathy Hall (Keith), Middleburg, FL; grandchildren Lori Lentjes (Angelo), Yulee, FL; Trish Ross, Green Cove Springs, FL; Sharon Provencher (Bryan), Jacksonville, FL; Jesse Hall (Lana), Mobile, AL; Cole Hall, Orlando, FL; 8 great-grandchildren; brother Ralph “Chip” Wood (Margaret Ann), Fernandina Beach, FL, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Fernandina Beach with Father Doug Hodsdon officiating. A reception will follow the service in Burns Hall at St. Peter’s. Gail will be laid to rest in St. Peter’s cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a memorial donation to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 801 Atlantic Avenue, Fernandina Beach, FL, 32034.
