Gary E. McClellan

2019-07-31

Gary E. McClellan, 74 of Yulee passed away at his home Tuesday, July 30, 2019.

Born in Jacksonville, he was a son of the late George Lee and Ruby Freeman McClellan. Garys family moved to Yulee shortly after his birth.

Gary retired from the Nassau County School Board where he served over 30 years as a bus mechanic. Prior to working for Nassau County he also worked for the City of Fairfax, VA and the City of Jacksonville where he maintained the police cars and motorcycles.

While he enjoyed his work, Gary also was an avid reader, loved fishing and was a NASCAR enthusiast. He was also passionate about old steam locomotives. Whenever he could he would read about them or watch some documentary about them. Another of the pastimes he enjoyed was barbecuing at home.

He was a man everyone knew to have a huge heart. He was never too busy to listen to friend or stranger alike and he was easy to talk to. With all the things he enjoyed doing, he truly loved his wife and family.

He was predeceased by a brother, Marvin McClellan and a daughter, Niki Balok.

Gary leaves behind his wife of 33 years, Pam Jones McClellan of the home; three daughters, Sheryl L. McClellan(Sam Hensley) of Hilliard; Lisa Muncy (Rusty) of North Carolina; Teresa McSwain (David Wolf) of Pensacola, FL; a brother, Michael McClellan (LuAnn Sanders) of Yulee; a sister in law, Martha Parton of Yulee as well as 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed .

A service to remember Garys life will be held at 5:00 pm on Sunday, August 11, 2019 at the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge in Yulee, Florida.

Gary will be laid to rest at Hughes Cemetery.

KIM MCCLAIN August 1, 2019
My daughter, Rachel McClain, met Papa years ago when she would go to the bus yard with our friend Kathy Gammon. She truly loved seeing Papa and Uncle Mike each morning and they both have a very special place in her heart. She was thrilled to see them last week in Captain Jacks! Thank you for sharing Papas love with her. He must have been an exceptional man. God bless you all.
