Mary Kight

I worked with Gayle in Jacksonville, FL. and called her my friend. I’m sorry that her last few years presented such struggles for her. I know that all of her family and friends are devastated by her passing.

Gayle Q. Rybicki

2024-11-30

Gayle Q. Rybicki, age 73, of Fernandina Beach, Florida, passed away on November 30, 2024, after a short illness.

Gayle was born Gayle Lynn Butcher in Parkersburg, West Virginia, the daughter of James H. Butcher and Gertrude (Barnes) Butcher. She grew up in Sandwich, MA (Class of 1969). A military move in her junior year led to Kailua, Hawaii. In Hawaii, she married Alfonso E. Quinones, the father of her two children.

She is survived by her daughter, Dana A. Quinones (Fernandina Beach, FL), her son Christopher A. Quinones and wife Deanna (Troy, MO), and their four children Paige, Parker, Chase, and Lilly and her sister, Jymme L. Butcher (Winchester MA).

Gayle’s 30-year career in insurance and insurance instruction took her to Houston, TX, Charleston, SC, Springfield, MO, Atlanta, GA, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and lastly, to Jacksonville, FL where she fell in love with Fernandina Beach and lived in Old Town for many years.

Gayle was a fixture at the Fernandina Beach public library. She was a dedicated bibliophile, and took great pleasure reading in her sunny office, with her two cats by her side. Most recently, she lived at Amelia Lakes, where she communed with the turtles every morning and evening.

A private memorial service will be held at Bosque Bello cemetery, in Old Town. In remembrance, donations may be made to the Pat Conroy Literary Center.
