Gerald Leroy Zeller

2022-01-15

Gerald L. (Jerry) Zeller, 86, passed away on January 15, 2022. Born on October 7, 1935, in Cissna Park, Illinois, to Leroy and Verna (Swanson) Zeller, he spent three years in the U.S. Army before attending the University of Illinois and Western Illinois University where he graduated in 1961 with a degree in business. He later became a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy, where he was a much-admired Sea Cadet instructor.

An industrial engineer, Jerry designed equipment moving liquid units for many large, well-known corporations. Although he retired in 2000, many of his bulk handling systems are still in use in these multi-national firms.

He was a bon vivant who was revered for his sense of humor, his silly songs and jokes, his love of animals, and his kindness to all. He was a noted folk artist, working with oil on canvas, recreating images from his childhood in a small farming community.

Jerry leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Marilyn (Cornish) Zeller, and three children, Scott L. Zeller, M.D. (m. Susan Winchester), Heidi (Kurt) Anderson, and Holly Skinner. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Hailey Anderson (Jordan) Nelson, Hollis Anderson, Mette Anderson, Douglas Zeller, Dean Skinner, and Carson Skinner. In addition, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a myriad of loving relatives and dear friends mourn his passing. A presence larger than life, he will be sorely missed.

Donations may be made in his name to the S.P.C.A.
