Gerald Wayne Suggs

2026-07-26

Gerald “Wayne” Suggs was called to his heavenly home on July 26, 2026.

He was born on March 26, 1952, in Jacksonville, Florida, to the late Reverend Gerald Wayne Suggs and Viola Higginbotham.

Wayne was raised in Baldwin, Florida, where he graduated from Baldwin High School in 1970. After high school, he attended Arkansas State on a basketball scholarship. It was during his senior year in high school that he met the love of his life, the late Penny Ingham Suggs. They moved to Yulee, Florida, where they spent 52 years together raising their family.

He was a faithful member of Blackrock Baptist Church. After Jesus, his greatest blessing was his family. Wayne retired after thirty-five years with AT&T and enjoyed spending his days helping with his grandchildren. He was an avid outdoorsman, spending time hunting and fishing. On Saturdays in the fall, he loved to cheer on his Georgia Bulldogs.

He leaves behind a daughter Jenny (Robbie) Nevin, a son Jesse (Jennifer) Suggs, granddaughter Faith (Caleb) McCormick, three grandsons Bryce Nevin, Grady and Cooper Suggs. He also leaves behind a sister, Vada Suggs, nieces Angie Griffin and Shawn Singletary, and a special angel here on earth, Brenda O’Quinn.

A Celebration of Life will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 1, 2026 at Blackrock Baptist Church. Visitation to follow with the family immediately after the service.
