Harold C. Garrett

2026-06-29

Harold C. Garrett, of Amelia Island Florida, passed away June 29th, 2026, at the age of 95.

Harold was born on January 10, 1931, in Brooklyn, NY and served in the Army during the Korean War. A graduate of Hofstra University, Long Island NY, he rose to the position of Senior Vice President and National Sales Director of direct mail marketing at Metromail in New York City.

Harold is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Mary Lee, his three children, daughters, Pamela, Kristin (Frank Hannon), son, Geoffrey (Jussara) and grandchildren, Amelia, Leo, Lilliana, Max, Frankie and Mary Ayla.

After living in Warren, NJ, Harold and Mary Lee fell in love with Amelia Island during a tennis camp vacation in 1987, purchased a tennis villa on the spot, and later found their permanent home at Spyglass overlooking the ocean that he so loved. They spent most of their married life travelling the world, especially enjoying cruising together with friends and family. Harold was an accomplished swimmer during his college years, even participating in the Olympic Trials. An ardent sports fan with a lifelong passion for football, he traded his New York Jets loyalty to the Jacksonville Jaguars, embracing his new hometown. He was also an avid golfer, becoming the founding Commissioner of the SMOGS (Saturday Morning Older Golfer's Society) at the Long Point golf course.

Harold will be remembered for his quick wit, unforgettable one-liners, and the way he could make anyone smile or laugh. Above all, he was a devoted family man who found great joy in the people he loved. The family would like to thank the guys and gals at Advance Rehabilitation for always cheering him on and sharing his enthusiasm for "the Jags". Our thanks also for the compassionate care he received from Community Hospice.

Internment will be at 2PM, Sunday August 2, 2026, Amelia Plantation Chapel Columbarium.

Donations in Harold's memory may be made to Community Hospice & Palliative Care, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, Florida 32257, and Amelia Plantation Chapel, 36 Bowman Rd., Amelia Island, Florida 32034.
