Herschel Leroy Fox

Mr. Herschel LeRoy �Roy� Fox, age 69, of Fernandina Beach, passed away on Tuesday evening, February 10, 2016 at his home.

Born in Harlan, KY, he was one of four children born to the late Elmer Rudolph and Della Marie Hensley Fox. He grew up in Harlan and was a graduate of Harlan County High School, Class of 1964. Upon graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served until being honorable discharged in 1969. He returned to Fernandina and began working at ITT Rayonier. Within a short time he joined the Amelia Island Plantation Company as a Locksmith. He continued to work as a Locksmith for Island Maintenance and Amelia Lock and Key before joining the workforce at Kings Bay as a Department of Defense Sub Contractor. He retired from Kings Bay in 1998.

Roy was proud of his Cherokee Indian Heritage and many knew him by his tribal name �Mountain Fox�. He was a member of The Cherokee of Georgia Tribal Council in St. George, GA.

He leaves behind his daughter, Hannah Elizabeth �Beth� Hennen, Memphis, TN, two sisters, Ginger Joyner and her husband, George, Marsha Williams and her husband, Glyn, all of Fernandina Beach, FL, a brother, Victor Fox, Cooksville, TN, and a granddaughter, Lenora J. Hennen, Memphis, TN.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm, on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Jacksonville National Cemetery.

Mr. Fox was laid to rest in Jacksonville National Cemetery, Jacksonville, FL.
