Hugh Miller Rawls III

Mr. Hugh Miller Rawls III, age 52 of Jacksonville passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2016.
Born in Long Beach, CA he is the eldest of three children born to Hugh Miller Rawls Jr. and Dorothy Anne McCrimmon Rawls. The Rawls family moved frequently with his father�s various Naval assignments. Hugh grew up in the Charleston, SC area where he was a graduate of Hanahan High School, Class of 1983. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in a MASH unit at Fort, Meade, MD before serving as a Medevac Medic in Seoul, Korea . Upon being honorably discharged he settled in Fernandina and enrolled in the Nursing Program at Florida State Junior College in Jacksonville. Upon graduation he joined Baptist Hospital in Jacksonville as an Emergency Room Nurse. He worked in the Emergency Rooms at both Baptist and Methodist Hospitals for approximately 14 years before transferring over to the Florida Poison Control Center � Jacksonville as a Certified Specialist in Poison Information. He served as national co-chair for the American Association of Poison Control Center�s Specialist in Poison Information Committee. Hugh also worked part time as a charge nurse at the hospital in Macclenny, FL.
Hugh was fond of and enjoyed Jeep vehicles, enjoyed four wheeling, was a member of the Matanzas Jeep Club, and was accomplished at fixing and enhancing the mechanics of his Jeeps. He enjoyed Jazz music and playing his saxophone in several local bands.
Hugh leaves behind, his son, Charles Thomas �C.T.� Rawls, Sacramento, CA, four daughters, Veronica Springett, Jacksonville, FL, Amy Estrella, Bremerton, WA and twins, Stacy and Melanie Estrella of Jacksonville, his parents, Captain Hugh Rawls Jr., USN, Retired and Dottie, San Mateo, FL, a brother, Steve Rawls and his wife, Annette, Fernandina Beach, FL, a sister, Anne Ruggireo, Citra, FL, two nephews, Eric and Steven, a niece, Georganna, and three grandchildren, Kairi, Jeremy and Iona.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Jacksonville National Cemetery with Reverend Chris Capaldo of St. Peter�s Episcopal Church, officiating..
His family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00 � 7:00 pm at Oxley Heard of Fernandina Beach.
Hugh will be laid to rest in Jacksonville National Cemetery with Military Honors.
