Irin Brad Bennett

2019-01-23

Captain Irin Brad Bennett, age 47, of Fernandina Beach, FL, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 22, 2019.

A native of Fernandina, he was born on February 25, 1971, the son of Al and Mary Bennett. He was an ace catcher, senior class president, and graduate of Fernandina Beach High School in 1989, and after high school attended St. Johns River State College on a baseball scholarship. Following his time at St. Johns, he attended Wake Forest University as well as the police academy.

Brad returned home to Fernandina to join the family business. He was a proud third generation commercial fisherman and the captain of many shrimp boats over the years. He was at home on the water. He loved to play the guitar and ride his Harley-Davidson Road King whenever the opportunity arose.

His grandmother Mary Catherine Bennett, grandparents Harold Lee and Willie Hulett Godwin, Sr, uncle, Roger Godwin, and cousin Philip Godwin all preceded him in death.

He leaves behind his parents, Al and Mary Bennett, his beloved wife of 18 years, Kristi Bennett, his daughter and son-in-law, Summer and Luke Andresen, his son, Eythan Robertson, his brother, Deron Bennett, grandfather, Cecil Bennett, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at St. Michaels Catholic Church with Father Jose Kallukalam officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 28, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors. The family will serve as pallbearers.

Brad will be laid to rest in Bosque Bello Cemetery.

Floral Tributes are accepted or you may make memorials in his name to St. Michaels Catholic Church, 505 Broome Street, Fernandina Beach, Florida 32034.
