James �Jimmy� Peters 77, of Fernandina Beach, Fl, passed away Monday July 17, 2017 at Nassau /Baptist Medical Center in Fernandina Beach, Florida. He was born in Fernandina, Fl, on August 29, 1939, the son of the (late) George Darrell Peters and Grace Bennett Peters of Fernandina Fl. He attended Fernandina High School where he played trumpet in the High School Band under Dr. Bud Hill. He graduated in 1958 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he was stationed on the U.S.S. Saratoga. Following his discharge, he returned to Fernandina where he worked for Rayonier. He retired in 2002 as a Wood � Scaler after 34 years of service.

He was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church and was active in the Ashburn-Hendricks Sunday School Class. Mr.Peters was preceded in death by his Father and his Brother Ronnie Peters.

He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Shirley Peters, his son Gregory and Amy Peters of Fernandina Beach, his mother Grace Bennett Peters of Fernandina Beach, his brother John Peters of Fernandina Beach, his sister Barbara Zachary of Brunswick, Ga., and Sister Joanne and Donald Wilder of Fernandina Beach, his Granddaughter Kendall Rae Peters and Grandson Jensen Gregory Peters

The family will receive friends at 10:00 AM Thursday in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard. Services will follow at 11:00 AM with Rev. Zach Terry and Rev. Wayne Arnold, officiating.
