Drake, your dad was a beautiful soul. He was so proud of you and loved you very much. He was a truly kind person who is loved by so many people. He always had a smile and a hug ready that made people feel welcomed and special. I am sorry that he was called home too soon, he will be missed.

Jason Dean

Jason Dean, 54, of Jacksonville Passed away Sunday, April 30, 2023 at the Warner Center for Caring in Fernandina Beach.

Jason was a son of the late Joseph Carl and Jewel Griffin Dean and had lived in Jacksonville his entire life.

He attended the Bolles School in his early years and was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School. Jason worked as a salesman with Triangle Fasteners, a roofing supply company. He enjoyed collecting vintage toys, watching movies and eating at good restaurants.

Jason was a longtime member of Chet’s Creek Church and he was very active there. He was very involved in the Children’s ministries. Jason had a “servant’s heart”. He assisted with Vacation Bible School, church camps and any place where he felt he could be of use. His desire to help and do for others extended beyond his church life. He also supported Safe Harbor Boys Home and could be found helping neighbors in some way, including working in their yards. He will always be remembered by family and friends for his hugs and telling them he loved them.

In addition to his parents, Jason was predeceased by a brother, Joey Dean and a niece, Stephanie Von Balson.

He leaves behind his son, Drake Dean and his wife, Taylor; a sister, Terri Von Balson and her husband, Mike; two nephews, Michael Von Balson and his wife, Shannon, and their children, Devon, Cooper and Sadie; a nephew and son of his late brother, Joey, Dalton Dean as well as Jason’s beloved dog, Peaches.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 5 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 6, 2023 beginning at 10:00 AM at Heckscher Drive Baptist Church, 6650 Heckscher Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32226.

He will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery.

Rather than flowers, the family asks donations be made to Chet’s Creek Church Children’s Ministries, 4420 Hodges Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32224.
