Jean Thompson Kane, 93 of Fernandina Beach, Florida and Ocean City, New Jersey passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023 peacefully at home.
Born on October 11, 1929 in Chester, Pennsylvania to the late George W. and Marion Booth Thompson. She grew up in the same city and graduated from Chester High School. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania she married her late husband of 67 years, Richard D. Kane in 1952 while embarking on an accomplished educational career teaching Kindergarten and First Grade. That career came to a halt with the birth of the first of their four children.
Family and friends will remember her as very smart, gracious, set in her ways, confident, and always a true lady expecting proper manners and etiquette – old school traditionalist for sure! She and her husband were world travelers, but she loved her home beach most of all having had sand in her shoes for all 93 years!
Jean is survived by her children, Richard D. Kane, Jr and wife Arlene of Gloucester City, New Jersey, David T. Kane and wife Lane of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Jeffrey B. Kane and wife Rita of Fernandina Beach, Florida and Susan Kane Langager and husband John Langager of Fernandina Beach, Florida; 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held beginning at 4:00pm on Thursday, March 23, 2023 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors, Fernandina Beach, Florida.
Per she and her husband’s wishes, they will have their ashes joined together and windswept offshore into the Atlantic Ocean – one of their favorite places.
