Opal was a beloved member of our 1960 class of FBHS. She had a great sense of humor and always created a few laughs at our quarterly reunion gatherings. She will be truly mised by us all.

Jewell Opal Mixon Wells, 79, of Fernandina Beach, FL, passed away on Monday, July 12th, 2021. Born in Nassau County Florida, she was the daughter of Josiah and Irie Crews Mixon. Opal grew up in Fernandina Beach and graduated from Fernandina Beach High School in 1960.
Opal is remembered for opening her heart to anyone who had a need. She loved and cared deeply for others and was a friend to all.
Opal leaves behind three children, Deeanna Gillespie (Marc) of Ellijay, GA., Robert Mixon Jr. (Ginny) of Fernandina Beach, FL. Julie Bargeron (Harold) of Blue Ridge, GA; A sister, Judith Brown, of Fernandina Beach, FL; 7 grandchildren (Nicole, Justin, Elaine, Eric, Bonnie, Cierra, Ben) and 8 great grandchildren
(Coral, Penelope, Abram, Hendrix, Brantley, Jeremiah, Remi, Jayla). She was preceded in death by grandson Spc. Kelly J Mixon.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 on Saturday, July 31st, at Oxley Heard Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until the hour of service. Opal will be laid to rest in Bosque Bello Cemetery.
