Joan A. Duncan

2020-09-09

It is with great sadness that the family of Joan (Noanie) A. Duncan announce her passing on Monday, September 7, 2020 at the age of 84 years.

Noanie will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 64 years, Jock Duncan; her children, John (Lisa), Cathy, Michael (Elisabeth) and Tim (Melissa). Noanie will also be remembered by her twelve grandchildren, Sean (Katherine), Erin (Payton), Matthew (Lauren), Allison, Brooke (Dan), Christopher (Rebecca), Duncan (Christi), William, Kathleen, Tucker, Ryan and Haley.

She also leaves behind a great-grandchild, Grace.

She is predeceased by her younger sister, Marylou Cornet.

A native of New Jersey, Noanie attended Dwight School for Girls, class of 1953. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Economics from Mount Holyoke College in 1957. Noanie met Jock in 1955 on a blind date. They were married for over 64 years.

While raising four children, Noanie was active in various community associations. She loved her flowers, was a Master Gardener and active in the Garden Club of America. Noanie was also very involved with the Junior League of America and gave countless hours to the local PTO. She also gave her time to the Mary Fisher Home, a place for unmarried women with no family. Yet her real job was being a mom.

Noanie was a great lover of animals, with a household full of pets.

Her family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home.

She will be laid to rest in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Tenafly, New Jersey.

Memorial donations in Noanies name may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Nassau County or the Humane Society of Nassau County.

Jock: Were so sorry to hear this news. Sorry as well that we didnt hear it until we returned to Amelia yesterday and found we had missed an opportunity to tell you (and yours) in person how much we liked Noanie and how much well miss her sunny presence. She became our first friend when we arrived 12 or 15 years ago and was a constant source of grace and humor..God bless. Be well and be strong, my friend.
