Joan Marie Woodberry Foote
2024-05-19
Our beloved mother Joan Marie Woodberry Foote entered into God’s Kingdom on Sunday, May 19, 2024 after a battle with congestive heart failure. She passed peacefully with her family by her side.
Joan was born to David and Elizabeth (Betty) Woodberry on August 2, 1932 in Baltimore, Maryland. When Joan was younger, she was an accomplished tennis player and continued to play through most of her adult years. She attended Converse University. After college, she moved to Jacksonville, FL and worked as a flight attendant.
In 1955, Joan met Marshall while playing tennis at Boone Park. Joan & Marshall went on to have four children, Elizabeth, Andy, David and Laura. Joan was a faithful follower of Jesus, first and foremost. She loved the church and helped provide the home in which faith grew in each of her children. She served the community through the Junior League and was an avid member of Lakewood United Methodist Church until her children graduated from high school. Later, she worshiped and served at First Baptist Church, St. John's Cathedral in Jacksonville, and Memorial United Methodist Church in Fernandina Beach.
Joan joins her husband, Marshall, her brother David, her sisters Doris Gornto, Peggy Woodberry, and her son-in-law Bruce Fulford who are with our Lord.
Joan leaves behind many loving family members including her four children and their families: Elizabeth (Tom) Morris whose children are Tom, John, Mary, Calvin; Andy (Gaye) Foote whose children are Angela, Christen; David (Gail) Foote whose children are Amy, Sara; and Laura Fulford. Joan is survived by 12 great-grandchildren as well: Tom (Emilia) Morris whose children are Bekah, Noah, Liza, Mia; John (Brianna) Morris whose children are Oliver, Benjamin, Charlie, Archie; Mary (Paul) Lynch whose children are Braden Morris, June; Amy (Elijah) Depew whose children are Zelie, Lucia.
A service to remember and celebrate her life will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2024 beginning at 11:00 AM at Memorial United Methodist Church.
Should friends desire, contributions in Joan’s honor may be sent to Community Hospice & Palliative Care of Northeast Florida at https://thefoundationcares.org/give/
