John "Jack" Aloysius Dolan
2024-02-07
John Aloysius Dolan (Jack) was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 17th, 1939. His high school sweetheart, Jeanne Elizabeth Rosedale, became his wife in 1960. Together they travelled the world and lived in New Jersey, Westport, CT, Paris, France, Sharon, CT and finally made their way to Amelia Island, FL. They were married for 63 years when he died peacefully on February 7th, 2024.
Jack received both his undergraduate and master’s degrees from Pace University in New York. Beginning in 1965, Jack enjoyed a nearly 40-year career in the worldwide music business first with CBS Records and then with its successor company, Sony Music. Among his key international assignments was serving as Regional Vice President in CBS Records European Headquarter Office in Paris. His most important assignment was in his role as Senior Vice President of Development where he had the responsibility for establishing and developing a worldwide network of subsidiaries, joint ventures and licensee music companies to represent the international music activities of CBS Records/Sony Music. Perhaps his greatest accomplishment was the establishment of Sony Music’s Asian Headquarters in Hong Kong and the creation of its Sony Music China Company in Shanghai.
Despite Jack's illustrious career, his proudest achievement was his family. Jack's grandchildren remember his gift of storytelling inspired by his travels. One of his recurring characters was Sammy Wong, from the Island of Shangri-La.
Jack was a lover of music, classical or Credence Clearwater, Ireland, Italy, peasant food paired with peasant wine, gourmet food and fine wine, martinis, cannolis, cruising, sailing, golden retrievers, any joke that could be told with an Irish brogue, ocean views and sunsets.
He is preceded in death by his parent’s Margaret and John Dolan, his sisters Elaine Dolan and Joan Vincent. Jack leaves behind his wife Jeanne, sister Mary Weckerle, his children Kathleen Knorring (Jamie), Patricia Stuebe (Doug) and John Dolan (Sharon), his beloved grandchildren Madeline Howard (Andrew), Patrick Knorring (Michelle), William Knorring, Owen Stuebe, Ian Stuebe, Finn Stuebe, Shane Dolan, Ryan Dolan, Casey Dolan and his two great granddaughters, Emma Knorring and Haley Howard.
A celebration of Jack’s life will be held later in April. Donations in Jack’s honor may be made to the Wolfson Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.
