John Andrew Sproha

John Andrew Sproha, age 84, of Amelia Island, Florida, died April 26th 2024. John A. Sproha, son of Andrew and Susan ( Harakley) Sproha, loving husband of Maureen Sproha passed away on April 26th surrounded by his family after a short battle with pneumonia .

John was born January 21st, 1940 in Morristown, New Jersey. At age 10 John moved to Ashford Connecticut where he attended local school (a one room schoolhouse). He graduated Windham high school class of 1957, Seaton Hall University in New Jersey majoring in pre law.

In 1962, he joined HSB Hartford Inspection Insurance Company as a special agent. In 1970 he was elected corporate secretary to manage the reinsurance division, during which time he attended Princeton University's insurance management course and Columbia University's marketing management course. He went on to form HSB Associates traveling extensively throughout Europe, Scandinavia and America. John returned to the home office in 1984 working on special projects.

In 1999 he retired with Maureen to Cape Cod and continued to work as a consultant while enjoying his boat and fishing, he also became a Director of the Barnstable Land Trust. In 2004 they moved to Naples, Florida enjoying many years as members of Wyndermere Country Club, traveling, cruising and trying to conquer his greatest challenge GOLF, his beloved pup, Iggy always by his side.

In 2023 in search of a more relaxing and quiet life, John and Maureen moved to The Lakeside of Amelia in Fernandina Beach Florida. John made many friends around the world and at home. He always held a special place in his heart for England, as it was where he met Maureen.

John leaves behind his beloved wife, Maureen; his son, John Jr. Spoha; his daughter, Susan Standen; granddaughters, Rachel and Cherise; grandson, Damian; daughters in law, Bonnie and Melissa and son in law, Dirk. He was preceded by his son, Dr. Steven Sproha.

A memorial and celebration of John's life will be held in Hartford Connecticut at a later date.
