John G. Deemer
John Grundy Deemer, age 68, passed away peacefully on Thursday October 17, 2019, at the Community Hospice Warner Center on Amelia Island, Florida. John was born on March 4, 1951 in Williamsport, PA to Nettie Louise Coit Deemer and John January Grundy Deemer.
For high school, John attended Blair Academy where he became passionate about skiing and photography. From an early age, John also enjoyed traveling and the perspective it brought on the many different ways that people live.
John received his Bachelors degree from St. Lawrence College in 1976. He married his first wife, Rebecca Elizabeth Savage, on June 4, 1977, with whom he had two daughters, Bridget and Rachel. He raised his daughters in Tolland, Connecticut, where he was an active member of the United Congregational Church and the local bridge club. He worked as a contractor, addressing technical challenges such as Y2K for Hartford-based insurance companies. After retirement, he moved down to Amelia Island, Florida where he married his second wife, Nancy Dale Duck, on October 25, 2015.
John gave generously to humanitarian and environmental charities throughout his life and held deep compassion for those that were suffering. He seemed to always believe the best in people, strangers and friends alike. He was well read and enjoyed staying abreast of the local, national and international news. His kind and generous spirit, his witty and insightful conversation, and his dry sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.
John was preceded in death by his father, John, and his mother, Louise.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his two children, Bridget Read Deemer and partner Mike of Hood River, OR and Rachel Coit Deemer of Suffield, CT; his two sisters, Willie Wickman and husband Darrell of Harvard, MA and Barbara Douglass and husband Lou of Atlanta, GA.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the Covenant Central Presbyterian Church in Williamsport, PA.
