John Paul Megna

John Paul Megna, 94, of Fernandina Beach passed away Friday, November 22, 2024 at the Warner Center for Caring.
Born in Milwaukee, WI, he was a son of the late John Eugene and Marcella Delaney Megna. He attended schools in Milwaukee, served his country in the U. S. Air Force and called Milwaukee home until moving to Fernandina Beach in 1994. He has been married to Theresa Mayer Megna for 66 years. He met her in 1957 when she and her sister were visiting a friend in Milwaukee. They were married four months later.
He retired from sales and was a long-time employee of Forrer Business Interiors. Living in Milwaukee he was an active member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and was very active in the American Legion in Milwaukee and Wisconsin serving as local Post Commander, District Commander and State Vice Commander.
After moving to Fernandina Beach, he quickly became involved in various groups and activities. He was active at St. Michael Catholic Church where he was a member of the Men’s Club, started the St. Michael’s Veterans Club and was an alter server.
Mr. Megna also served on the board of directors of the Fernandina Beach Shores condominium association for a number of years as well as serving 15 years on the Fernandina Beach Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee. He served as local president of the AARP chapter and for many years, made the trek back to Wisconsin where he taught at the Badger Boys State, a program that teaches high school age youth about leadership and the workings of government. Of all of his accomplishments he was most proud of his being instrumental in the opening of the Veterans Memorial Park at Central Park.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his siblings, Mark Megna, Mary Boulet and Anne Smaida.
He leaves behind his wife, Theresa Mayer Megna; a niece, Suzanne Harmon of Milwaukee; two sisters in law, Lillian Crotts and Kay Kieferndorf, both of Fernandina Beach; dear friends, Hilda Ainsworth and Lori and Pierre Guite.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael Catholic Church on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at 11:00 AM.
