John Tassey, II

2018-01-27

John Tassey, II age 78, of Fernandina Beach, FL passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the Warner Center for Caring

John was a very accomplished artist and learned art from his father, an architect in Savannah, as well as studying at schools in England and the US. However, he was mostly self-taught.

He loved the outdoors and spent many, many hours in the woods or on rivers, fishing, or just enjoying looking at nature. His favorite subjects were things he saw from his canoe or on walks through the woods or along the seashore. He also enjoyed doing portraits of both people and animals.

John experimented with several different media, but worked mostly in oils on linen because of the control and soft edges he could get. He tried to create an impression of reality without being photo-realistic.

Johns work is in many private collections in the Southeast. His current galleries are Art on Centre in Fernandina and Stellers in Ponte Vedra. He donated work to his church, St. Peters, and to other local groups such as the Friends of the Library.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Tassey, his stepdaughter Jeanne Robertson (Hebden Bridge England), his sister Ann Norton (Savannah), his step brother, Richard Yankauskas (Ft. Walton Beach,FL) and two Shelties, Buffy and Munchkin. He was predeceased by father, John Tassey, mother, Elizabeth Buddy Yankauskas, stepfather Charles Yankauskas all of Savannah.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Community Hospice or your favorite charity.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at St. Peters Episcopal Church in Fernandina Beach, FL.
