Joseph Dewey Wyatt

Mr. Joseph Dewey Wyatt, 66, of Fernandina Beach, FL passed away Sunday, August 16, 2020 at the Warner Center for Caring.

He was born in Houston, Texas and was a son of the late Howard W. and Carra Frances Croft Wyatt, and step-father Marlie Tillman. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wyatt was predeceased by his brother, Howard W. Wyatt, Jr. earlier this month.

He retired from the U. S. Army after 20+ years where he served honorably in the Corps of Engineers retiring as a Sergeant First Class and acting First Sergeant. For much of his career he worked as a civil engineer across the globe supervising road, airport, and dam building.

After retiring from the Army he worked for the Georgia Department of Corrections inspiring and supervising inmates. Afterwards, he worked in similar capacities in civilian life and made his home in the Jacksonville and Fernandina Beach area.

Joe loved being at the American Legion Post 54 and the VFW Post 4351 with those who shared a military history. In his spare time he enjoyed listening to music and dancing. He was renowned as a great dancer on the island. For many years he enjoyed riding his horse, Lady, and fishing.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Jeanne Brown Wyatt of Amelia Island; his son, Joseph DeWayne Wyatt and his wife, Holly, of Leesburg, GA and his three grandchildren, Charlotte and Lawson Wyatt, and college student Amber of Toledo, OH; his brother, Pete Wyatt and wife, Peggy, of Deweyville, TX , and brother, David Wyatt, also of Deweyville, TX, Christopher Tillman and wife, Jennifer, of Morven, GA, and his sister, Jean Hodges and husband, Ronnie of Hilliard, FL as well as several extended family members and friends.

Mr. Wyatt will be laid to rest with military honors as part of a graveside service at Jacksonville National Cemetery at 11:30 am on Tuesday, August 25, 2020.
