Josephine Marie Davito

2024-02-21

Josephine Marie Davito went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on February 21, 2024

Josephine was born on November 27, 1919 to Rosario and Philomena Cirrincione in Spring Valley, Illinois. Her parents immigrated from Sicily/Italy where she was the third youngest of eight children, all of which were the first generation born in the United States. She grew up on Devlin Street in Spring Valley and her father worked in the Spring Valley Coal mines.

Josephine worked at Westclox in Peru, Illinois from 1938 until 1957 manufacturing clock parts in peacetime and manufacturing bomb fuses during the Second World War. She married the love of her life, Peter Davito, in 1951 and they had one son, Steven. From 1967 until its closing in 1992, she worked as office manager with her husband at Davito Lumber Yard in Spring Valley.
She was devoted to her husband and enjoyed traveling across the country to visit her son, a career submarine officer in the United States Navy, daughter-in-law Kristine (Padgett), granddaughter Stephanie and grandson Peter.

Following the death of her husband of fifty two years in 2003 she has spent the majority of her last years with her son’s family on Amelia Island in Fernandina Beach, Florida. Josephine was a very devoted Catholic and a member of Saint Anthony’s and then Nativity of our Lord in Spring Valley. In Florida, she attended Saint Michael’s in Fernandina Beach. She enjoyed reading the Bible, cooking and visiting with her many friends but she cherished time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren the most. Her entire life she always put others first.

She is survived by her son, Steven Davito, (Kristine), granddaughter Stephanie of Fernandina Beach, FL, grandson Peter (Devon) of Jacksonville, FL, and great granddaughters Sarah and Ellie.

Rather than flowers the family requests any donations be made in Josephine’s name to the Nativity of our Lord parish in Spring Valley, Illinois.
