Joyce was my 1st cousin and I had no idea she had passed away. We have great times together over the years and she will be missed. Love you! Rest in peace

Ms Goodbread Bowman was my 2nd grade teacher when I was in the 2nd grade at Forest Hills Elementary School in Jacksonville, FL. She was always kind and I loved her. May her soul rest in eternal peace.

Joyce Goodbread Bowman , 77, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri passed away on December 12, 2022 at Harrisonville, Missouri.
Born November 27, 1945 in Fernandina Beach, Florida to the late John and Mae Clyde Lovett Goodbread, she grew up in Yulee, Florida and graduated as Valedictorian of her class from Yulee High School in 1963. After graduating from Florida State University with a degree in Education, Joyce began working as a teacher. After teaching in grades 1 through 4 she became a Kindergarten teacher, a position she held for over 20 years.
She was a great friend who was passionate about teaching, especially her kindergarteners. She was an active member of North Jacksonville Baptist Church, and then after retirement, Central Baptist Church in Douglasville, GA and Abundant Life in Lee’s Summit, MO.
Joyce leaves behind her beloved daughter, Amy MacEwen and son-in-law, Eric MacEwen of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; grandchildren, Kate, Sam, MeiLi, Reggie, Juliana, Zy, Jose, Ziya, Marisol, and Kaileigh of Lee’s Summit; sisters, Ann Goodbread Shadix of Greenville, South Carolina and Jane Goodbread Keeling, and brother-in-law Robert Keeling, Jr., of Yulee, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Mae Clyde; her brothers, Edward Goodbread, and sister-in-law Lilo, and Clyde Goodbread, and sister-in-law Jutta; and her brother-in-law Ronnie Shadix.
Funeral services will be at noon on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at the Burgess Chapel at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the chapel.
She will be laid to rest in Hughes Cemetery in Yulee.
Donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society or FosterAdopt Connect in Independence, Missouri.
