Mrs. Joyce was a special lady! She had the sweetest spirit and her smile was contagious. I never saw her that she didn’t tell you that you she loved you and Jesus loved you. I’ve known her for over 50 years and she definitely was one of my favorites!! I worked for Mrs. Betty when she managed the restaurant. I’ve been in church with her and oh my what a blessing. So to say she’s going to be missed is by far an understatement. So Mrs. Joyce you go rest in the arms of Jesus and wait for us to get there and what a joyous reunion that is going to be! You will always have a special place in my heart! Praying for you all!

Mrs. Joyce was such a sweet woman. She taught Sunday School at the River of Praise when I was a kid. Whenever I saw her in public she would always make sure she said hey. My deepest condolences. She is for sure in heaven rejoicing and singing praise to God.

I went to school with Joyce and went to church services where Joyce attended. I will miss her smiles, and her always telling everyone that Jesus loves you, I love you and you are loved. Will see you again, but will miss you until then.

We met Joyce 13 years ago when we moved to Georgia for a brief time she adopted us and made us feel like family. After reading this I realize she was just that kind of person. She was every example of a good Christian lady. Our lives will forever be changed because we met/ loved her.

On Monday, December 9, 2024, Joyce Ann Sofge of Yulee, Florida passed away at the age of 70 years. Joyce was born on March 17, 1954 in Charleston, South Carolina to Floyd James and Betty Jewel Coggins. She was a graduate of Fernandina Beach High School, Class of 1972. After high school, she married the love of her life James aka Jimmy Sofge and started her career with Trident Training Facility in St. Mary's, Georgia. Joyce and Jimmy had the perfect love story.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy and Betty Coggins, her in-laws John and Geradine Sofge, her brother Mark Jerome Coggins, her sister Valerie Lee Huffman, and her nephew Joshua Mark Coggins. She is survived by her husband of forty-three years Jimmy Sofge; two children, Jonathan (Serenity) Sofge of Yulee, Florida; Amy (Chris) Hughes of Killeen, Texas; three grandsons Carson Yearwood, Joseph Sofge, Jase Sofge; two sisters, Paula (Gary) Morrison of Yulee, Florida; Melissa (Kimberly) Coggins of Satsuma, Alabama; sister-in-law Terry (Mark) Harvell of Jacksonville, Florida; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives that she cherished dearly.
Joyce worked as a Training Specialist for Trident Training Facility in Kings Bay, Georgia for 35 years, where she received several awards. After retiring, she volunteered her time at Baptist Hospital in Fernandina Beach, Jail Ministries, and many churches.
Joyce was a one-of-a-kind lady that never met a stranger. To know her was to love her. She loved the Lord and was a kind beautiful soul. She was a loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend. She thought the world of her grandchildren and cherished every minute with them. Joyce enjoyed spending quality time with family, camping, and rooting for the Georgia Bulldogs. Joyce also enjoyed shopping with her sisters every chance she got.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 16, 2024, at Harbor Worship Center, Kingsland, Georgia with Pastor Mike Sanes officiating. A reception to follow at the church.
