June Sagan Rand

June Sagan Rand, recent widow of diplomat S Richard Rand, passed peacefully on October 5, 2016 in Fernandina Beach, Florida. She was born in Hartford, Connecticut on March 10, 1930. She and her husband of 65 years first met in grade school in Wethersfield, Connecticut.
For twenty-five years Mrs. Rand traveled and resided abroad, accompanying her husband on diplomatic assignments to Marseille and Paris, France; Vientiane, Laos; Bern, Switzerland; Bermuda and Bangkok, Thailand. An avid Bridge player, she developed deep relationships wherever she lived, remaining in contact with many new friends for decades. She hosted local and international dignitaries alike, and was active in charitable and community service functions related to the well-being of local communities and Americans living and traveling abroad.
Following her husband�s retirement in 1988 they maintained a principal residence in Washington, D.C. and a summer home in Ophelia, Virginia. She is survived by her brother Richard Sagan (Elizabeth Ferris Sagan) of Old Lyme, Ct, and three children, Steven Mark Randazzo (Yeshica Weerasekera) of San Francisco; Lisa Rand Peat (David Peat) of Fernandina Beach and Richard Rand (Kelly Pask) of Los Angeles; four granddaughters, Devin Peat Martin, Taylor Peat Sapp, Samudra Randazzo, and Charlotte Rand; and six great grandchildren.
A local memorial service will be held on Monday, October 10 from 5 PM to 7 PM at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home, 1305 Atlantic Ave., Fernandina Beach, FL.
