Justine Shurman

2016-05-15

A beautiful new angel was presented to God when Justine Shurman, 86, was called home on May 1st. Justine, whom everyone knew as Tina, was born on April 7th, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York to Otto and Justina Phanstiel. After marrying Joseph John Shurman in 1950, Tina had four sons: Joseph, Michael, Mark and Gregory. Those boys were devoted to her until the end. The Shurman boys were hers and she protected, nurtured and loved them unconditionally. In 1978, Tina, Joseph and sons Mark and Gregory moved to Fernandina Beach.

Tina was one of the most generous, loving and caring people you will ever meet and opened her heart and home to everyone without reservation. She truly had the spiritual gift of hospitality. She was a blessing to those who knew her and a gift to those who loved her. Tina was also a strong woman who entered the work force at age 51 after the death of her husband. She rose quickly to general manager of the Amelia Surf and Racquet Club while putting two sons through college at the University of Florida.

These qualities helped her build a network of friends whose lives were enriched knowing her. She will be missed by many who were blessed by her presence here on earth.
As she joins her family in heaven, there is a sadness falling over those who loved her and were loved by her. Her sons Joseph, Michael, Mark and Gregory will all miss their mothers love.
Her grandchildren, Carolyn, Jaclyn, Megan, Savanna, Ryan and Zachary will all miss their Grandmothers encouragement and support.

To celebrate Tinas life, the family invites everyone to Oxley-Heard Funeral Home on Thursday, May 5th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and the Memorial Service, which will be held at St. Michaels Catholic Church on Friday, May 6th at 11:00 am. A Christian Burial will take place at Bosque-Bello Cemetery immediately following the service.

Justine Tina Shurmans life was a blessing and her memory will be treasured by every life she touched.

In lieu of flowers, if so desired, memorial donations may be made in Justine Tina Shurmans name to St. Michael Catholic Church, 505 Broome Street, Fernandina Beach, FL, 32034 or to a charity of your choice.
