I have fond memories of Karen through golf before she and Ferrell moved to the Villages. Karen still bought her smile back here every year to play golf in one of our tournament, usually with Pat Gibbs. Karen will be greatly missed by her friends and family.

I met Mrs. Karen my freshman year when we became next door neighbors. She became a second mom to me in those years that followed. I will never forget her beautiful smile and loving ways. ❤️
Karen Dale Mashburn
2024-09-03
Karen Dale Mashburn (84) of Yulee, FL was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven on September 3, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on November 15, 1939 in Sheffield, Michigan to Helen and Adrian Dale. As the daughter of an officer in the United States Army, she spent many of her early years in Panama, but her family eventually settled in Atlanta, GA.
After graduating from Sylvan High School in 1956, she began her professional career at First National Bank of Atlanta, which would later become Wells Fargo Bank. During this time, she met and married the love of her life, Farrell S. Mashburn in 1971. The couple had two children, Kim and Shellie, whom they raised in Conyers, GA.
Karen remained in retail banking until her early retirement in 2004, when her and her husband decided to move to one of their favorite vacation spots: Amelia Island, Fl. Always the avid golfer, Karen and her husband joined the Amelia Island Golf Club and spent many years of their retirement traveling, competing in golf tournaments, and enjoying time with each other and their friends.
Their passion for golf led them to The Villages, FL in 2014 where they spent the next 10 years of their lives together. In 2012, Karen’s loving husband introduced her to the second love of her life: a 2-month-old Havanese named Snickers.
Despite their happiness, Karen and Farrell never could quite shake their love for “The Island,” and in 2024 the couple moved back to Yulee, FL.
Karen is survived by her spouse of 53 years, Farrell Mashburn; her children, Kim Whittemore and son-in-law Freddie Studdard, Shellie Mashburn and daughter-in-law Amanda Mashburn; grandchildren, Ashley Whittemore, Brandon Whittemore, Gentry Mashburn, and Reece Mashburn; great grandchildren, Jayce Whittemore, Chloe Mashburn, Landyn Mashburn, Owen Adams, Logan Whittemore and Elizabeth Gray.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, September 16 at 10:00 a.m. at Oxley Heard Funeral Home in Fernandina Beach, FL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Hospice & Palliative Care, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257, or give online at support.communityhospice.com.
