Kenneth sorry for your lost cuz but know you truly was blessed to have had a father as you did and your dad was always proud of you! He’s up above listening to your mama and Millie waiting his turn to fill them in ha! He was the same ole uncle from as far back as I can remember and always upbeat and good for a laugh or 2 think Adam rubbed off on him! Sorry for the void now but we know our responsibilities etc in order to go meet up again for eternity!! Love you all

Another irreplaceable has left us. He will truly be missed . I know my Daddy was at the gate waiting to show him around. He was so sweet , gracious and kind. He and Daddy shared such laughs over stories of when they were younger and I could have sat for days listening to him telling them. He loved Vic (Mud) like a son and never let us forget how much he loved us. Our prayers to Kenneth , KC and all the family you are in our prayers .

Kent was my daddy's cousin, and they were always close. I remember when we lived in Dinsmore Kent would park his pulp-wood trailers in our field. Him and Ruby were great people. If there is timber is heaven, Kent got his eye on it!!

Papa Kent will be so missed! He was a sweet, kind man who always loved his family and worked hard to provide for them! He always made us feel special , lighting up when we came in the room and giving us girls those big, sloppy kisses! I’ll miss conversations with him because he was a common sense person and gave such good advice! I know he’s having reunion today and is walking those streets of gold! You were loved and will be missed!

I’ve known Kent my entire life. Our families have been friends for years and they’ve always felt like family. He and Ruby used to go see my parents every Christmas Eve after all us kids were grown and gone. I remember the day they brought Millie home. I can remember running around in the yards with Kenneth and all the other kids of parents that my parents hung out with. He was the sweetest man and always smiling. Always gave big hugs when we saw each other. I know he will be missed by so many because he was loved by so many. No doubt he’s with Ruby and Millie now and smiling bigger than ever. Kenneth, you are in my thought and prayers.

Brandon

"Pops" was a joy. He was always a cut up. I never saw him mad, always had a smile on his face. He was one of the hardest workers I've ever met. Always on the go. I know the family will be lost without him. I'll be praying for all of you.

There are more words than there is space to write about what Kent meant to me and my late Mom and Dad. We were family at heart and our families made so many memories together when I was growing up,until I moved to SC. I can tell you he was a great man with exceptional values and a heart as big as Texas. I am definitely heart broken to know he's no longer on this earth but I am happy to know he is with his passed loved ones. I know I will see that always smiling face again one day, until then you will be loved and missed eternally.

Mr. Claxton was a generous man. I rented a house from him for more than ten years. He charged me only what i could afford and helped me out as much as he could. I loved to listen to the memories he shared with me. I will certainly miss him.ies

Kenneth "Kent" W. Claxton

2025-04-20

Kenneth W. Claxton (Kent), 90, formerly of Yulee, passed away at his home in Hortense, GA, on Sunday, April 20, 2025.

He was born in Jacksonville and was a son of the late James B. “Tom” and Sadie Wilson Claxton.

Kenneth (Kent) was a lifelong hard worker. For many years, he operated his own logging business in and around Yulee, and it was often said that he kept the mills in Fernandina Beach running with the timber he brought in. After retirement, he never slowed down—he spent his days improving his land in Hortense, tending to his cattle, and staying busy from sunup to sundown. He often said he loved to work, and his drive and dedication were at the heart of who he was.

His property became a true showcase—every fence, barn, and pasture shaped by his hands and his vision. Beyond work, one of his greatest joys was coon hunting, where he earned awards and shared stories that always brought a smile.

He loved his family deeply and showed it in countless ways. He shared an unbreakable friendship with his son, Kenneth E. Claxton—they were more than father and son, they were the best of friends. He adored his grandchildren Melissa and K.C.

In addition to his parents, Kent was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ruby in 2001, his daughter Millie in 2008, and seven siblings.

He leaves behind his son, Kenneth E. Claxton of Hortense; his grandchildren, Melissa Claxton of Yulee and K. C. Claxton of Hortense; his longtime companion, Patricia Kelly of Hortense; a sister, Dorothy Bloodsworth of Maitland, FL; and his great-grandchildren, Mallory Brown, Colt Claxton, Wilson Brown, Wrangler Claxton, and Hunter Claxton—as well as many nieces, nephews, and others who loved and admired him.

Funeral services for Mr. Claxton will be held Thursday, April 24, 2025, beginning at 1:00 PM in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors with Rev. Jim Tippins officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 PM.

He will be laid to rest next to his wife at Hughes Cemetery.
