We have shared many fun Christmas Eve celebrations with Larry and Helen in our home. We have also have had very nice Fourth of July/ Larry’s Birthday celebrations at their home in Fernandina Beach, Florida. They would host our children and us for a wonderful weekend of celebration. We will miss you, Papa Larry.

I have been working with Larry for a little over a year. I started when his wife was alive. Mr. Cook was a wonderful man pleasant to work with. I’m so happy I have the privilege to have taken care of Mr. Larry cook till his last day. my condolences to his children his daughter-in-law his grandchildren I know he’s with his wife and he’s in a better place in my condolences to you all again, Didi.

Larry Joe Cook, 90, of Fernandina, Beach, Florida, passed away on July 24, 2026.
He was born in Columbia, Mississippi on July 2, 1936, to John Coleman Cook and Inez Pittman. He grew up in Columbia, MS and graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. At Tulane, he met Helen Glenn Cook, whom he married on November 20, 1958.
Larry entered active duty on June 2, 1958, and served for 27 years. Larry and Helen lived in many interesting places when Larry was in the Army including Kansas, France, Virginia, Germany and San Francisco. During his career in the Army, he served in Viet Nam and was stationed in Korea. His awards include the Bronze Star. Larry finished his career with the rank of Colonel and served as the Commander of the US Army Transportation Corps for the West at Oakland Army Base.
When Larry retired from the Army, they moved to Coronado Island near San Diego, CA, and they relocated to Fernandina Beach, FL in November 2003. Larry enjoyed traveling with Helen, growing a large garden, tending roses, and going to the local YMCA.
He leaves behind his children, David and Thomas, daughter-in-law, Rae, and grandchildren, Jonathan Cook and Catherine Quesenberry.
