Uncle Buddy and I had some memories together and probably didn’t share a lot of them but the 1 we couldn’t hide was when we backed the truck in the river 1 evening as we were going shrimping in Blackrock!! Ha I was young and freaking and asked uncle buddy what are we going to do? Of course his answer was come on Dennis get in the boat we’re going shrimping ain’t nothing we can do now!! And we did!! Scott and Michelle you guys have had 2 of the best loving and proud parents any child could have ever asked for and know that both are up in heaven together now catching up on their time away. I’m very sorry for you guys loss and I love you all and words can’t ease the hurt just know our good Lord was ready for him and there is no suffering etc any longer. Love you all Dennis Scott

Lewis E. Miller

2023-01-22

Lewis Elrod Miller, well known by loved ones and friends as “Buddy”, 80 years old, of Yulee, Florida, passed away January 22, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Buddy was born August 2, 1942 to his late parents, Lewis and Dovie Miller. He grew up in Kingsland, Georgia.

Buddy retired in 2005 after serving 33 years at Jefferson Smurfit Corporation, known as WestRock today. He shrimped from ages 15-23, and during that time he was Captain of the following Fernandina Beach boats: Roma, Little Michelle, Golden Nugget, Lucky Lady, Bossy Betty, Terri Lee, Contiki 1, and many others.

Buddy enjoyed anything outdoors from hunting, fishing, to camping. When he wasn’t enjoying the outdoors, he enjoyed spending his time on the front porch greeting all of Durden Road and telling his stories. To know Buddy was to know the amazing stories and memories he had to share.

He was predeceased by: his wife Joann Delk Miller; his parents, Lewis Miller and Dovie Miller; and his 9 sisters.

He is survived by: his children, Michelle Wilder (Edmund) and Scott Miller (Karen); his grandchildren, Brooke Shepperd (Shane), Jarrett Sinclair (Amy), William Miller (Emily), Ryan Miller (Caleigh) and Austin Miller; his great grandchildren, Rylee, Natalee Sinclair and Bristol Shepperd; and his sister Judy Cooner.

The family will receive friends and family 5:00 PM- 7:00 PM on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at Oxley Heard Funeral Directors.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM Thursday, January 26, 2023 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley Heard Funeral Directors.

He will be laid to rest beside his wife at Green Pine Cemetery.
