I am so sorry for your loss but so happy that you had your Mom with you for so long. You were truly blessed. I wish that lightened the pain but I’m sure it doesn’t. God bless you and your sister and all your family.

Lorree Pittman Wilsher

2024-12-28

Lorree Wilsher, 91, of Fernandina Beach, Florida went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at the Warner Center for Caring (Hospice). She was born in Jacksonville, Florida, to the late Clarence and Bernice Norman Pittman and grew up on the west side of Jacksonville. Lorree attended Robert E. Lee High School.

She was a faithful and active member of First Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach, the Jeanie Benfield Mission group and the Bethany Faith Ladies' Sunday School Class. Lorree also served as a Sunday School teacher for many years and taught young women and the Bethany Ladies.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 59 years, John D. Wilsher, as well as her brothers Junior, Leon, Carroll, Eddie Pittman, and her son-in-law Russell Turner.

Her only surviving sibling is her sister Jan Pittman.

Lorree leaves behind her two daughters, Sherian Berteau (Jeff) and Vicki Turner, who cared for her after her husband, John, passed away in 2009. Lorree shared a close bond and loving relationship with her daughters. While words cannot fully express the depth of their sorrow and loss, they find comfort in knowing that she is now free from pain and is with Jesus and her beloved husband. She will be deeply missed by her six grandchildren: Jay Kennedy, Douglas Turner (Caressa), Allan Turner (Leah), Patrick Berteau (Laura), Benjamin Berteau (Erin) and Katy Berteau, as well as her nine-and-a-half great-grandchildren: Myles, Carla, John, Evangeline, Theo, Marlee, Baby Berteau, Alex, Charley, Joe and many nieces, nephews and two very special friends, Imogene "Imo" Smith and Virginia "Gigi" Martin.

On Saturday, December 28, Lorree returned home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her deep faith guided every aspect of her life. Anyone who spent even a few minutes with Lorree knew that the most important things to her were Jesus, her family (especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren) and sharing her wisdom in knitting, sewing and cooking. Lorree had an almost mystical intuition, capable of sensing when something was amiss. She was always ready with a hug, a shoulder to cry on, or her famous macaroni and cheese.

Lorree was passionate about her communities, leaving behind many friends in Fernandina Beach, Waynesville (N.C.) and Daytona. She loved spending time at the family cabin in Waynesville and had resided in Fernandina for over sixty-four years. Her compassion and empathy were immense; if you knew her, you knew you were loved. Lorree leaves a void that cannot be filled here, but she has gone to her eternal home to take her place in the Kingdom alongside her family and friends. Words cannot express how deeply she will be missed by those she leaves behind.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the hour of service at First Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach.

Lorree will be laid to rest at Jacksonville National Cemetery on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 9:30 AM. Jacksonville National Cemetery is located at 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to First Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach, the Warner Center for Caring (Hospice in Fernandina), and St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
