Condolences:
Mary Vollenweider
So sad to read of the passing of this beautiful soul. I will miss singing with sweet Lydia at Savannah Grand. She could play the piano and knew the old hymns by heart. We had fun conversations and I will miss her. Sincere sympathy to Suzy and Tom.
Sherry Merritt
Sending condolences to Ms. Lydia's family. I always enjoyed seeing Ms. Lydia at Savannah Grand.
Lydia Gentile
2024-06-27
Lydia Gentile, born on October 16, 1929 went to be with her Lord on June 27, 2024.
Born in Hartford, CT to the late Klementi Towstik and Anna Kubow Towstik. She was one of five children. She met and married the love of her life, Nicholas Gentile of Philadelphia, PA.
The couple moved to Delaware County, Pennsylvania where they raised their only child Susan (Suzy) until Nick’s passing at the age of 53.
Lydia worked in the billing department of Delaware County Hospital until her retirement. After retirement, Lydia never slowed down. She was a devout member of the Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church, where she played the piano and ran the Thrift Store in the basement of the church. Like everything in Lydia’s life, the store was run like a first-class operation.
Music was a passion that Lydia loved. She learned to play the piano by ear at the age of 5. Once she moved to Fernandina Beach, she continued to play to delight all her friends at Savannah Grand right up until days before she passed.
She leaves behind her brother, Fred Towstik of Colorado, as well as her dedicated daughter, Susan (Suzy) Groff and her son in law, Tom Groff of Fernandina Beach. She will be dearly missed by all who were able to witness her talent and spirit for life.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home. The family will receive friends and family beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service.
