Mrs. Margaret Ann �Peggy� Becker, age 91, of Fernandina Beach, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, November 30, 2016 at Baptist Medical Center in Fernandina Beach.
Born in Jacksonville, FL she was the daughter of the late William James and Loretta Buchner Reid. She grew up in the Avondale area of Jacksonville where she was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. Upon completing high school, she accepted employment in San Francisco where she met a young Sailor, Maurice B. �Bernie� Becker. They would marry in 1945 and make their first home in San Diego. Her husband was honorably discharged in 1947 and ran his own bookkeeping firm until joining the State Department as an Accountant in 1967. The Beckers lived in Washington, DC, Manila and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba before coming to Fernandina Beach in 1980. After her husband�s retirement from Kings Bay Naval Base in St. Mary�s, GA the Beckers traveled across the USA in their Winnebago for three years. They returned to Fernandina Beach in 1990 to make this their fulltime home. Being avid sailors, the Beckers enjoyed time spent on the Cal 32 �Sea Fever� sailing through the Bahamas and to Cuba. Mrs. Becker was an avid golfer, a member of the Fernandina Beach Women�s Golf Association and enjoyed gardening and cooking.
Mrs. Becker�s husband passed away in 2008.
She leaves behind two sons, Gregory Lee Becker and his wife, Joanne, La Selva Beach, CA, David Mark Becker and his wife, Marie, St. George, UT, a daughter, Karen Christine Williamson, Fernandina Beach, FL, a brother, William J. �Bill� Reid Jr., Sacramento, CA, three grandchildren, Neil Becker (Kseniya Becker), Christopher James Hestand, Reid Becker (Lauren Duval Becker) and one great grandchild, Dominic Becker.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Monday, December 5, 2016 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley Heard with Chaplain Jim Tippins, officiating.
Her family will receive friends on Monday, at the funeral home, from 1:00 pm until the hour of service.
