Margaret Mary Mahon Fain

2023-04-02

Margaret Mary Mahon Fain, 92, beloved wife of the late Wyman Vereen Fain Sr. and the loving mother of Vereen, Janice, Ferris, Mona and Moira passed from this earthy world, on Palm Sunday, April 2, 2023. Entering the gates of heaven, into the loving arms of her husband Wyman and son Vereen.

Born in County Longford, Ireland on December 26, 1930 to Daniel and Bridgette Mahon. Eventually setting sail to the United States at the age of eighteen years old to pursue her dreams. Falling for the love of her life Wyman, in New York City and tying the knot in South Carolina on June 27th, 1951.

As they began their journey as husband and wife moving throughout the south, they began welcoming their little family along the way: Wyman Vereen Fain Jr. in Jacksonville, Florida: Janice Maureen Fain in Montgomery, Alabama: Ferris Eugene Fain in Montgomery, Alabama: Mona Margaret Fain and Moira Marguerite Fain in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Peggy was truly the Queen Bee of her little hive. The highlight of her life was living in the Panama, Canal Zone where her husband held the position of Senior Lockmaster of Gatun Locks from 1977-1981.

Mom’s love for her all children always kept them close. “A mother’s love, even after her nest is empty and her kids are grown, echoes in the hearts of the children she raised and the family she nurtured.” Dad always said their children could not be run off, their children always flocking to their home to be by their side, even continuing with their grandchildren.

Always smiling at everyone who entered the room and giving them her full attention. Peggy was always a very religious person, always voicing her faith in the lord. “God has always been good to me” she would say. “May the good lord bless you and keep you” she would end each birthday blessing with.

“Nothing could be compared to a mother love in this world as it is the purest form of love. Mother is like an angel for her child, who always loves her child and cares for them. For every child, their mother has a special place in their heart because she is the first person the child sees after being born.”

She was predeceased by her husband, Wyman Vereen Fain Sr. and son Wyman Vereen Fain Jr. She leaves behind her loving children Janice Ferro, Ferris Fain, Mona Madafferi (Ivan) and Moira Horgan (Terry). Grandchildren Sean Horgan, Alanna Madafferi, Ivan Madafferi Jr., Daniel Horgan, Cherub Hartway, Heather Horgan and Peter Madafferi. Great grand-babies Lucas Crofoot and Huckleberry Hartway.

Peggy’s legacy will reign on with another great grandbaby this June, in which she was so excited would be taking on her little name, little miss Mae Hartway. Her children and grandchildren could not have been blessed with a more loving and caring mother or grandmother. Her love is what she was to her children. Her loving and gentle heart was truly the center of our family.

A mass to celebrate her life and pray for the peaceful repose of her beautiful soul will be private as will her burial which will follow.
