So sad to hear of Aunt Margaret's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family.

Ann Crews-Hance

I am so very sorry to hear about Margaret. She was just amazing and I enjoyed growing up with her and the family in Fernandina so many years ago. She will be forever missed. What a beautiful soul!!! Praying for you all.

Margaret Rowland

2023-02-13

Mrs. Margaret Rowland, 75, of Fernandina Beach passed away Monday, February 13, 2023 at her home.

Born in Nassau County, she was a daughter of the late Nolan Dewitt and Elma Rider King. She graduated from Fernandina Beach High School where she was a member of the Cheerleading Squad. She grew up fishing at Ft. Clinch and enjoying her youth in and around Fernandina. She lived in Nassau County for nearly all of her life except for a few years when she and her first husband, James Edward Skipper, Sr. lived in South Carolina.

Mrs. Rowland will always be remembered as a sweetheart of a lady but will also be remembered for her feisty side. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who enjoyed working with her gardening and plants. She had an incredible “green thumb” and could make nearly anything grow from seed or the smallest cutting. She also an incredible “little league” mom who managed to get everybody where they needed to be and at the proper time.

After the passing of her first husband, she married her elementary school sweetheart, Willie Earl Rowland in 1999. They had first meet at the local movie theatre when she was 10 years old. They had a wonderful life together. She enjoyed traveling with Wilie Earl, enjoyed playing slot machines, “but only the penny slots” and many other joyful activities. Over the years she had come up with a collection of sometimes pointed sayings which her family collected into a book

She leaves behind her husband, Willie Earl Rowland of Fernandina Beach; her children, Jimmy Skipper, Jr. of Fernandina Beach; Tom (Sharon) Skipper of Yulee, Donald (Pam) Skipper of Fernandina Beach and Tammy Skipper Holloway of Yulee; Willie Earl’s children, Billy Rowland and Angela Rowland and their families; her brother, Michael (Beckie) King of Jacksonville; six grandchildren, Lesley (Timothy Kearns) Skipper, Elizabeth Holloway, Gage Skipper, Zach Skipper, Sarah Holloway and Grace Skipper; three great grandchildren, Jeffrey Kearns, Nolan Kearns and Maggie Kearns.

Funeral services for Mrs. Rowland will be held Thursday, February 16, 2023 at 12:00 PM in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 AM.

She will be laid to rest at Bosque Bello Cemetery.
