Marion Kathryn Housel

Marion Kathryn Housel, age 75, of Fernandina Beach, FL passed away on March 22, at the Community Hospice Jane and Bill Warner Center for Caring.

Born in Gordo, AL on June 20,1948 to the late Clarence Ralph Housel and Elise Price Housel, she grew up in Gordo and graduated from Gordo High School in 1966. She attended Livingston University and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and later received a Master of Education in School Counseling.
After graduation, she taught at Patrician Academy in Butler, AL for a year before moving to Fernandina Beach, where she began a 37 year career as a teacher and Guidance Counselor at Emma Love Hardee Elementary School, retiring in 2009. She was known for her love and dedication to all students.

Marion enjoyed traveling, reading, and cooking, and was a dedicated individual who loved her friends and family and was devoted to sharing her faith. As an active member of Memorial United Methodist Church for many years, she participated in numerous Bible studies and was a member of the Yokefellows Sunday School class and the Jackie Tomassetti Circle. She strengthened her faith by participating in the Florida Crown Walk to Emmaus and remained active in the reunion group. The Kairos ministry was a passion of hers and she worked closely with Kairos Outside for several years. This ministry holds weekend retreats for ladies impacted by incarceration. For three years, Marion served as Chair of the ministry’s Council. She especially enjoyed making “agape” for each weekend.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Clarence Ralph Housel, Jr.

She is survived by her sister, Beth (Jim) Mitchell; a nephew, Daniel Mitchell and several cousins.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, March 26, in the sanctuary at Memorial United Methodist Church, 601 Centre Street, Fernandina Beach, FL, 32034.
