Mary Ann Sweet

Mary Ann �Micki� Sweet, 74, of Amelia Island, Florida, passed away on December 27, 2018, after a year�s long battle with cancer. Micki was born on November 13, 1944, in Ft. Benning, Georgia to Fred W. and Elisabeth F. Sweet of Wrightsville Beach, NC.

As both a military daughter and wife, Micki lived throughout the United States and Europe and enjoyed getting to know people from different cultures. She shared her parents� passion for serving others and was generous with her time and talents. Micki was proud to have been instrumental in opening the first child development center at Ft. Benning, GA., served as a Cub Scout leader, and taught countless children to swim while the community pool manager in south Texas.

Prior to her retirement, Micki served as a long-term care geriatric nurse in Kerrville, TX. Micki especially enjoyed speaking in German with her many residents of German decent. She enjoyed a variety of sports to include basketball and swimming in her high school years, snow skiing throughout Europe and college football. Micki was also talented in the textile arts and blessed many with her skills in sewing everything from quilts to tailored suits.

After many years in Texas, it was Micki�s dream to return to the Atlantic coast where the sun could warm her bones and she could dig her toes into the sand. She realized this dream when she moved to Amelia Island in 2016 and did all she could to never leave the island. She quickly embraced Island Life and enjoyed gardening with her neighbors at the Sandridge Apartments, painting with Lamar, and studying God�s word with the ladies at Community Bible Study. Micki was a devoted parishioner at St. Michael Catholic Church where she enjoyed celebrating mass from the balcony.

Micki was preceded in death by her infant son, William; her brother, Fred; and her parents. She leaves behind her sons Daniel Costello, Jr. (Deanna) of Spokane, WA; David Krueger (Amory) of Austin, TX; Dustin Krueger (Naomi) of Taylor, MI; daughter Elisabeth Silvestri (Paul) of Amelia Island, FL; sisters Margaret Shepherd (Herb) of Atlanta, GA; Susan Miller of Austin, TX; Catherine Sweet of Wrightsville Beach, NC; 13 grandchildren, one great-grandson, numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

A special thanks from the family is extended to Micki�s caring medical team to include Dr. Rodeffer, Dr. Luke, Dr. Perkins and the compassionate staff of the Warner Center for Caring.

Micki�s faith will be celebrated with a funeral mass at St. Michael Catholic Church at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 6, 2019. She will be laid to rest at Bosque Bello Cemetery following the mass.
