Mary Ann Warren
2024-11-20
Mary Ann Warren, age 93, peacefully departed this life on November 20, 2024, at the Life Care Center of Hilliard.
She was born on May 24, 1931, in Anderson, South Carolina to the late Erwin C. Elting, PhD, and Virginia Boswell Elting. She grew up in Washington, DC, with two siblings Bill and Ginny. She graduated from Calvin Coolidge High School and earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Home Economics from the University of Maryland. She was married to Allen Mickey Warren in 1953.
She began raising her family the same year beginning with Norman Mickey Warren (Rhonda) of Fernandina Beach, Steven Paul Warren (Dorri) of Brandon, Florida, Joyce Warren Bartosh (Michael, dec.) of Fernandina Beach and Mark Allen Warren (Jeannie) of Millsboro, Delaware. After the birth of her last child, Mary Ann began a career in teaching elementary school in Chesterfield County, Virginia before retiring 18 years later. She specialized in teaching remedial reading during her career.
During the next several years Mary Ann was very active with Bon Air United Methodist Church in Virginia teaching Sunday School, president of their Women’s Society and representing them in political activism at the Virginia Legislature in nearby Richmond. After moving to Massillon, Ohio, to be near family, she joined the First United Methodist Church of Massillon and the Massillon Women’s Club. She loved reading and developed an avid interest in genealogy research while keeping up with her geographically scattered family. She was universally described as “just the sweetest thing” by all who knew her and was much loved by the family she created.
Mary Ann is predeceased by her parents, husband Allen Mickey in 2020, her brother Bill Elting and his wife Ginger, her sister’s husband Peter Foley and Joyce’s husband Michael.
She leaves behind her four children, 11 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend many thanks to the staff of the Life Care Center for outstandingly compassionate care over several years.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on December 16 at St. Peters Episcopal Church in Fernandina Beach.
