Mary Hewitt Marshall, 81, of Fernandina Beach passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at the McGraw Center for Caring in Jacksonville.

Born in Florence, SC she was daughter of the late Ralph C. and Mary Spann Hewitt.

Dr. Marshall was a longtime resident of Fernandina Beach. She first bought property here many years ago and some twenty years later built what could be described as a “gingerbread” house on north Fletcher Avenue. She enjoyed living on the less populated north end of the island.

In her professional life Dr. Marshall worked as a Speech Language Pathologist and a healthcare consultant for many years.

A committed environmentalist, she cared very much for the Earth and its climate. She actively worked with and supported local efforts to protect the sea turtles and enjoyed being able to see the little ones return to the ocean.

She was a loving mother and good friend to her children, Mary Lynn Marshall of Fernandina Beach and Malvin Hurst Marshall of Orlando. She also leaves behind her brothers, Ralph Clement Hewitt and William Brooks Hewitt, both of Orlando.

Although there are no services planned at this time, her family asks that all who knew her, please remember her in their own special way.
