Condolences:

Jane Marie Malcolm

My husband Bruce and I knew Mary Jo and Karl from church and potluck dinners together. She was always very sweet as we chatted over the years. She’s with all the other Saints now and loving it! 💕

Ivie Harrington and Tom

Aunt Mary Jo was a woman who loved life and family. She was always looking after her own family as well as giving and volunteering for the benefit of others. I am especially grateful to her and Sherry for their extra effort of care and visitation to her sister Edith, my mom, during her declining years in an assisted living facility. I know she truly appreciated the visits and care. Mary Jo's spunky spirit will be greatly missed but know she is enjoying the peace and rest with the Lord and all those who have gone before. Praying God's Peace will surround the family during this time of loss for them. God Bless, Ivie and Tom

Mary Jo Kruer

2022-04-15

Mary Jo Kruer, 90, peacefully passed away on Friday, April 15, 2022 at Community Hospice in Fernandina Beach, surrounded by her family.

She was born November 7, 1931, in Alto, GA, to the late Walter and Elvie Ivie. As a youth she lived in Atlanta, GA and also Tampa, FL where she graduated from Plant High School. After graduation she moved to Jacksonville, FL where she met the “love of her life” Karl Kruer, Jr. They met on the pier at Jacksonville Beach over Memorial Day weekend 1953 and were married on August 22, 1953 in St. Johns Lutheran Church. They welcomed three children into the world and were married for 57 years prior to his passing in 2011.

Mary Jo worked in and outside the home through her marriage. After the children were grown she filled her days traveling with Karl all across the United States, in their motorhome, until they settled in their final home in Fernandina. She loved water aerobics, making prayer shawls, playing Bunco and babysitting grandbabies. She actively volunteered at Baptist Hospital Nassau and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her daughter Sherylan Vaughn (Charles); son Karl Kruer, III (Debbie) of Jacksonville; Scott Kruer (Dyna) of Callahan; 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; plus many more nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Her husband, two sisters and a grandson predeceased Mary Jo.

Funeral services will be at 11:00am on April 20, 2022 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church on Atlantic Ave in Fernandina Beach. The family will receive friends from 10:00am until the hour of service. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Bosque Bello Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her memory to your favorite charity.
