Mary Pitcher
2022--02-28
Mary Hamilton Pitcher left this earth on the rainy Monday afternoon of February 28. She died peacefully at the age of 66 shortly after a diagnosis of incurable pancreatic cancer. Her last days were spent in the comfort of her room at the Hospice ward of Baptist Nassau, here on the island she loved.
After leaving her hometown of Okoboji in Iowa, she received her associate degree in California, then worked as marketing director for Waylon Jennings on his various tours before moving to Key West. There she became the Executive Director of the Key West Association of Realtors for several years. Next she secured her SixPack charter boat Captain’s license (and later, a 50 Ton Captain’s license) & met her future husband of 33 years, Dave, when he & his brother had the honor of being her first charter. Just a few years later after she & Dave married, she got her mortgage broker license, and soon became one of Key West’s most successful mortgage writers while in the employ of the Key West branch of The Islamorada Bank, better known as TIB. Mario Sanchez, the Cuban American folk artist was just one of the many well-known Key West personalities for whom she was able to write a mortgage. When First State Bank of Key West offered her the position of Manager of their Mortgage Department, she gladly accepted that role.
In 2006, Mary, along with her husband & their dogs moved to their new home here on Amelia Island. She soon became known to many of the residents through her positions at several local banks, & after securing her real estate agent license, she sold homes for Sea Horse Properties as her side job. Her final employer was The Pulte Group/Del Webb Homes where she made a new group of friends & associates while eagerly looking forward to being their sales representative for Wildlight, but she left us just short of the opening of that development.
She was a long-time member of The Chamber of Commerce & served on their board of directors & as President for one term. Her membership in ABWA , Leadership Nassau, Board of Economic Development, Friends of the Library, Barnabus & numerous other civic & charitable organizations made her name well known in those circles.
Mary was the youngest of five siblings born to Arlene & Joseph Hamilton of Okoboji, Iowa. She leaves behind her sister Sharon Hamilton & brothers James, Thomas & Damian Hamilton, & her loving husband, Dave Pitcher.
Donations in her name may be sent to Barnabus.
As per her wish, her family only memorial service will be held at St. Joseph Church in Milford, Iowa where her ashes will be interred at the family plot.
