MaryEdna Lightsey, age 78 of Yulee, Florida passed away on Monday, June 7, 2021 at UF Health in Jacksonville.
She was born in Fernandina Beach to the late James W. Batchelor and ClaraBell Jones Brown and was a life-long resident of the area.
Mrs. Lightsey worked as a PBX operator for the Amelia Island Plantation for 20 years until retiring in 2013.
In her spare time she enjoyed crocheting, reading, and going to church. She was known as a loving mother and grandmother, a devoted wife and a faithful Christian member of Lighthouse Tabernacle Church in Fernandina Beach.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Perlish Eugene “Gene” Lightsey who passed away in 1996, her siblings, Jimmy Batchelor, Charles Brown, Johnny Brown, Lawrence Brown, Ralph Brown, Betty Ennis and Nina Mudd.
She leaves behind her children, Michael Lightsey of Yulee, Florida, Karen Phillips (Clint) of Callahan, Florida, Renee Lightsey of Yulee, Florida, Laurinda Truman (James) of Yulee, Florida, Sheri Fogg (Randy) of Yulee, Florida, Clara “Stephanie” Cameron of Yulee, Florida; sister, Debbie Diggs (Pete) of Fernandina Beach, Florida; grandchildren, Chris Pickren, Andrea Wages, Erica Phillips, Ashley Truman, Kala Truman, Valarie Simpkins, Chasity Simpkins, Amber Fogg, Hannah Fogg, Tiffany Cameron, Brandon Cameron, Sarah Cameron, fifteen great-grand children, and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Friday, June 11, 2021 at Lighthouse Tabernacle Church in Fernandina Beach, Florida.
Her family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday evening at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home.
She will be laid to rest in Martha Memorial Church Cemetery in Mershon, Georgia.
