Michael L. Holland

2018-05-11

Michael Larry Holland, 65, of Fernandina Beach passed away Thursday, May 10, 2018 at the Warner Center for Caring.

A life-long resident of Fernandina Beach, he was a son of the late Arnold Ernest Holland and Doris Jean Tanner Holland.

He was a member of the 1971 graduating class of Fernandina Beach High School and began a career in construction. He would eventually operate D.L. Holland Construction.

He was a fisherman extraordinaire. He loved to brag about how he went to Hawaii and caught a nearly 900 pound marlin. At 14 feet, 8 inches and 889 pounds, it was nearly a record. He took great delight in being able to show everyone his catch because it was mounted and is displayed at the Crab Trap Restaurant to this day.

He loved his family and his work. He will always be remembered as a loving son, husband, father and grandfather and brother.

In addition to his father, he was predeceased by a son, James Harrison Holland and his brothers, Lawrence John Holland and David Craig Holland.

He leaves behind his wife, Debbie Holland of Fernandina Beach, Florida; four children, Cris (Misty) Holland, Heather (Ben) Hall, Jordan (Kristi) Holland, and Jarred Holland all of Fernandina Beach, Florida; his mother, Doris Holland of Fernandina Beach, Florida; his step-children, Tiffany (Ryan) Butler of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Erick Lambright of Fernandina Beach, Florida and Lauren (Charles) Wilder of Yulee, Florida; his siblings, Aaron Holland of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Bambi (Richard) Johnson of Glen St. Mary, Florida; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at the Journey Church.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until the hour of service at the church.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Community Hospice and Palliative Care for many special ways of caring for him and the family.

Those desiring may make donations, in his memory to the American Lung Association, 6852 Belfort Oaks Place, Jacksonville, Florida 32216.
