Mark "Hoser" Kulzer
To All of Mike's Many Loved Ones: I am so sorry for your loss. I met "Big Mike" through the Track and Field team at RIT. (We all had nicknames!) Mike was larger than life, in body and personality. Some of the most memorable quotes that we still bandy about are from "Big Mike". Rest easy, Mike. And don't be TIGHT!

Michael was one of the main reasons I joined Levy as his finance lead the summer of 2021. While we did not work together as long as he did with others in Levy Motorsports, he made a lasting impression on me that I will never forget and take with me wherever life leads. In that short time we worked together, we were able to enjoy working hard in many different places such as Atlanta, Daytona, Austin, Las Vegas, and many other places. I immediately missed him when he left Levy and that never dissipated in the last year. He always remembered to message me on Veteran’s and Father’s Day that I always appreciated. That really shows what kind of man he was to message me even after he left Levy. I am a better person for knowing him and working for and with him. He’s definitely going to be missed by everyone he came into contact with.

Hocter/Mulvaney Family - you are on my heart today and always! I’m thankful to have met you all shortly after my move to Overland Park, KS. I found comfort knowing you all were new too; we tackled so many firsts and milestones together. Although we don’t live near one another now, my love for you all has never wavered. You all are so special to me! One of my fondest memories with your dad was when he took us girls to my first concert. We sang off key to every Christina Aguilera song and ridiculously danced to every Danity Kane and the Pussycat Dolls song. We stayed up way too late that night but it will forever be one of my favorite memories of your dad.

Growing up with Callie I always loved seeing watching Callie and hers dad’s relationship. He would always call her lamb or fussball and it always made my laugh. One of my favorite memories would be when we would all go to 8 10 Sports zone for dinner because each booth had a TV where you could play games while you waited for your food. Sending all my love and prayers to you guys.

Michael Steven Hocter, 62, unexpectedly passed away, on the morning of July 11, 2024, from complications surrounding his battle with cancer in Fernandina Beach, Florida.
He was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 8, 1961, to his loving parents Barabara Jean and Donald Hocter, and spent his childhood in Greenwich CT. Michael graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Rochester Institute of Technology in New York. From there, he spent over 40 years building his career, working for many reputable restaurant chains and running his own restaurant business in Naples, Florida. He ended his career at a position he was most proud of, the COO of Ruby Tuesday’s. He met many wonderful colleagues and friends along the way that shaped him into the strong leader that he was.
Growing up, he was an all-around athlete playing and loving all sports. Michael was a two-time collegiate All-American Shot-putter (missing the USA Olympic team by only an 1/8th an inch), played a year on the Washington Redskins, and competed in heavyweight powerlifting. He loved being outdoors, sitting on a beach, drinking dirty martinis, eating appetizers, and especially loved Christmas time.
He found the love of his life, Holly Hocter, in March of 2018 and they were wed on June 27th of 2020. They moved to Fernandina Beach after spending two weeks there for their honeymoon on Amelia Island. They fell in love with the town, being by the beach, the people and the magic of the island. They spent most of their time on the beach, boating, riding the Harley, and visiting their favorite restaurants for plenty of great food and wonderful cocktails. Michael is survived by his loving wife, Holly, of four years, and her three children, Lexy, Adam, and Lilly, who he treated as his own.
Michael is also survived by three beautiful children who he adored and loved so deeply. Nicolette - Daughter (Peanut/Pickle), Don – Son-in-Law, and first grandson, August, Callie – Daughter (Fussball/Lamb) and Jameson – Son (55/Jam Bam). They grew up spending lots of time by the water, exploring beaches and having sleepovers on their boat. Michael fueled their love of food and connection with others, with some of their earliest memories including him chasing them around the house with a live lobster he was planning to cook for their vacation in Martha’s Vineyard. Michael was lovingly known to his children as “La Dad”, which was fitting as he gave those he loved special nicknames too. Michael’s kids are shared with his former wife Carolyn Connolly. Michael leaves behind his Mother -Barbara Jean and Brother – Bryan, as well.
His Memorial service is being held Tuesday July 16th at 3pm in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors.
We all love and miss him so dearly. He will forever be greatly missed.
