Millidon Popwell Harrington

Mrs. Millidon Popwell Harrington, age 84, of Jacksonville passed away on Saturday morning, January 28, 2017 at the home of her daughter.
Born in Brantley County, Ga., she was one of three daughters born to the late Marion Osgood and Gladys Arcelia Drury Popwell. She was a graduate of Nahunta High School, Class of 1949. She was a recipient of the Mumford Scholarship which enabled her to attend Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, Ga. where she graduated with a Bachelor�s Degree in Elementary Education. She began a long career as an elementary school teacher first in the Savannah and Macon, Ga. public school systems before moving to Jacksonville where she taught until she retired, having taught for over 42 years.
She enjoyed horticulture, making things grow and showing the fruits of her labor at the Greater Jacksonville Agricultural Fair.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Harrington is preceded in death by a sister, Darleen Lanier and brothers-in-law, Joe Lanier and Richard Rawls.
She leaves behind her daughter, Nanette Harrington, Jacksonville, FL, a sister, Shirley Rawls, Fernandina Beach, FL, several nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews and a special cousin, Grayson Day.
In addition to her family, she leaves behind April Gray and Judy Johnson who have been her caregivers for the past four and one half years and have provided selfless care, encouragement, love and support.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley Heard Funeral Home in Fernandina Beach, Fl. with Chaplain Grant Wheeler, officiating.
Pall Bearers are Joe Lanier Jr., Steve Lanier, Todd Lanier, Mason Sheffield, Michael Rawls, Carson McKendree, Esq., and Art Adams.
Mrs. Harrington will be laid to rest in Mount Olive Cemetery, Waynesville, Ga.
Her family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 � 7:00 pm at Oxley Heard.
