Miriam Davis, 76, of Fernandina Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2025 with her loving family by her side.
Born on December 1, 1948, in Anderson, South Carolina, to the late Mary Eleanor Duncan and Hoyt Benjamin Smith, Miriam grew up in Hartwell, Georgia. She attended Breanu Women’s College, then she transferred to University of Georgia. She graduated from University of Georgia with a degree in home economics in 1970. She married the love of her life, Allen Davis, on March 14, 1971. They raised their family in Lawrenceville, Georgia. She was a records clerk at Gwinnett County Police Department for over 20 years until her retirement in 2005. When they retired they moved to Amelia Island, FL alongside her sister and brother-in-law.
Miriam was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. She enjoyed her groups of friends she met at Curves, at the YMCA and St. Peter’s Readers. She enjoyed spending time with her family and ocean cruises with her husband and siblings to tropical places. Her favorite place was Tahiti. She leaves behind Allen her husband of 54 years.
In addition she leaves behind her daughter Leila (Jamey) Saunders of Portal, GA, and her son Bryant (Tiffany) Davis of Fernandina Beach; her siblings, Bruce (Marie Allen) Smith of Fernandina Beach, and Neal (Lisa) Smith of Tallahassee; her beloved pet Peaches of Fernandina Beach; her grandchildren Camille, Amelia and
A. J. Saunders of Portal, GA; her granddog Lucy Davis of Fernandina Beach and many more loving cousins, in-laws, nephews and nieces. Miriam was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Elisabeth (Jimmy) Smith and her nephews Brad Smith and Brandon Smith.
A memorial service will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Fernandina Beach on Monday, July 21 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends afterwards at a reception in Burns Hall.
