Mrs. Shirlyon Shirley Garrison

2020-02-22

Mrs. Shirlyon Shirley Garrison, 83, of Yulee passed away Friday, February 21, 2020 at the Warner Center for Caring in Fernandina Beach.

Born in Odum, GA she was a daughter of the late Johnny and Eloise Bennett. She met her husband, the late Gary D. Garrison, in Lake City, FL. With her husband as a career military man, Mrs. Garrison served her country as they lived in multiple locations and raised their family while Mr. Garrison was in the U. S. Army.

After his retirement from the Army, they moved to Yulee some 30 years ago. Mrs. Garrison worked for many years at Harris Teeter on Amelia Island. She retired as a supervisor in the deli after several years service.

While Mrs. Garrisons family was important to her, her Lord and Savior was first in her life and her ability to serve Him so many years as a member of Blackrock Baptist Church brought much joy to her life.

In addition to her husband who passed away in 2005, she was preceded in death by a brother, David Bennett and two sisters, Martha Brooks and Carol Coleman as well as a granddaughter, Amanda Nicole Garrison.

She was a sweet mama to her six children, Christine Griffith, Leessa (Richard) Black and Bud Garrison, all of High Point, NC, Dee (David) Benefield of Alachua, FL, Laura Bennett of Thomasville, NC and Tony Garrison of Yulee, FL. She also leaves behind two brothers, Joe (Jackie) Bennett of Punta Gorda, FL and Pee Wee Bennett of Port Charlotte, FL as well as 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 24, 2020 beginning at 2:00 PM at Blackrock Baptist Church with Pastor John Kasper officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 PM.

She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Hughes Cemetery in Yulee.
