Our sweet Memaw. I have to many memories to share. But some of my most favorite was traveling with her and my PopPop. Christmas shopping and looking at lights. Riding on the center console in the blue suburban, because there weren’t car seat laws back then. In the more recent years, Memaw staying in her camper in my driveway. My kids getting to know her. They spent hours out there putting together puzzles and Legos. I could hardly get Isy to leave her. Even if she was napping, Isy wanted to watch her sleep. I had 42 years with her and selfishly, I still didn’t want her to go. The world is a little less brighter with her light gone. I know she will live on through our memories, photos and hearts. She loved having all the family together and I will keep on hounding everyone every time I come in town.

To my extended family. My heart goes out to all of you. There are no words that can comfort, but God has His loving arms around all of you. Being a part of your family over the years has meant so very much to me. I have fond memories of when Mr. & Mrs. Acosta would camp at Ft. Clinch back in the 70's. What stories I could tell. I miss your dad, and Elaine but miss Vicky very much. We were very close. Losing her was hard. So many memories of sitting on the front porch on 2nd street during Shrimp Boat Races - Festival. So many stories that are cherished memories for me. Mrs. Acosta loved and treated me like one of her own. When she knew I joined the Eastern Star she was so happy. She loved the Star! She loved the Pirates!! She always sat waiting for the float to ride by waving at us. On my last visit before her passing, I was actually in my Pirate gear when I stopped by to visit. She was so happy to see me, thanking me for always being a true friend and knowing how much I missed Vicky. She asked for Annette to take a photo of us so she could show Vicky. I believe that Vicky us with us that afternoon in spirit. The photo is one I will cherish. I'm sure all of you will keep her memory alive, even though she is now at peace in Heaven. Hold on to those memories. While she may not be here with us, she will be here in spirit. Just want all of you to know how much I love all of you. Praying for the peace that only God can give you. With Love, Your Pirate - Marian Phillips

Norma Wilder Acosta

2026-01-12

It is with the deepest sympathy we inform you of the passing one of the daughters of Fernandina Beach, Norma Wilder Acosta, “MeMaw.” Norma passed away peacefully with family members by her side on January 12, 2026.

Born on May 11, 1933, she was the daughter of Capt Joseph Earl Wilder and Doris Cook Wilder. She had one brother, Donald Earl Wilder. She graduated from Fernandina Beach High School in 1951 and later met the love of her life, Thomas Frank Acosta. They married and raised 8 kids, plus some others along the way, always having more than enough love to go around.

After more than 50 years of marriage, we lost our dad to cancer in 2001. Even though the town and things have changed all around her, MeMaw has maintained the same small hometown feel of warmth and love at her homestead on 2nd street. As someone who has seen every single shrimp boat festival, she was honored as the Shrimp Festival Grand Marshall two years ago. She spent 81 years on 2nd street between Ash and Center. We will miss her bright smile and welcoming hugs from friends and family alike. She never strayed from her faith and always kept everyone in her prayers.

Norma is predeceased by her husband, Frank Acosta, two of her children, Elaine and Vicky Acosta, three grandchildren, Katie Acosta, Ashley Acosta, and most recently, JB Acosta. She had 8 children, 23 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. There are also many other friends, family cousins, and relatives that meant so much to her. She was 92 at the time she went to heaven and we are blessed that she was spared any long suffering or illness before she left us.

Services will be held for Norma this Friday, Jan 30th, at Oxley Heard funeral Home. There will be a visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a memorial service following immediately after.

Please sign the online guest book and if you are able, please stop in and share any stories or thoughts with the family on Friday. Norma, as well as the rest of our family, will be honored by our presence. There is no doubt our Mom is in heaven, but as her family, we’re just jealous of the angels that gather around her and the throne tonight.

God bless you all,

The Acosta Family
